Founded in 1987 during the peak of the yacht construction industry in Taiwan. CEO John Lu named the company Horizon Yacht to reflect a broad image, hope, and a desire to embrace the future.
Initially an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer), Horizon designed and built its own 45 and 58-foot models and shifted focus to Europe and Asia after a dip in the U.S. market. This change cemented the future for Horizon’s global business development.
After successful transitions in the market, Horizon continued with OEM operations while building its own branded products, including the first 80-foot model; accelerated development in Europe; and began rapid expansion that would set pace for the next 12 years.
Horizon obtained both ISO-9002 certification as well as CE marking and created Atech Composites and Vision Shipyard to meet product demands. While continuing expansion into Europe, Horizon re-entered the U.S. market under its own yacht brand.
With the boom in business in Europe and the United States, John Lu established specialized internal factories, including the CNC Tool Center, and formed a Group Management Center to oversee all operations. Horizon expanded shipyards and personnel to meet growing production demand.
The unexpected global financial crisis presented many challenges, however Horizon adopted the "self-build, self-market" strategy to complete 16 superyachts. At the same time, John Lu created a Marketing Center to rebuild Horizon's brand identity and increase brand awareness.
Horizon established a dominant position in the yacht manufacturing, marketing, and service market. The Group continued innovating in technology and focused on improving and expanding product lines, ensuring Horizon's position as the fifth largest custom yacht manufacturer in the world.
Horizon continues to invest in its facilities and equipment; most recently is a new production facility that can deliver 20 to 25 new boats per year. Today, the Horizon brand is admired worldwide and backed by numerous prestigious sailing awards.
