They might be a bit more utilitarian than raindrops on roses or whiskers on kittens, but our owners’ favorite things bring equal happiness and are definitely worth sharing. Our editorial team recently met up with the owners of two FD Series yachts to discuss their Horizon build experience and their favorite onboard details.
“It was a very pleasant building experience working with everyone at Horizon both in the U.S. and Taiwan. Their willingness to consider our ideas, incorporate their own and to be willing to compromise on important matters is very commendable. We look forward to many years of enjoyable cruising on our specially designed yacht.” — OWNERS
TÒ-KALÒN is the first Horizon build for the experienced owners, who customized their interior to feature a circular dining area on the main deck aft and incorporated Humphree stabilizers and interceptor tabs for added performance. Theirs was the first FD yacht to feature a semi-enclosed skylounge and crew quarters forward of the engine room. An overall length limit of 101’ 9” – so as to fit in the slip of their home port – influenced the overall design, but in the end the owners were able to incorporate all of their desired amenities.
SPACIOUS CREW QUARTERS
“We specified very nice crew quarters forward, which leaves us with four spacious guest quarters aft. This makes it easy for the crew to service these quarters without going up and down a lot of steps.”SEMI-ENCLOSED SKYLOUNGE
“We positioned the tender forward instead of the boat deck, which gives us a large, beautiful covered sky deck area with sliding windows. Here we can host 20+ party guests with all the amenities and plenty of seating.”WELL-APPOINTED GALLEY
“We really enjoy our well-appointed galley. It features two refrigerators, two freezers, a custom coffee nook, a ship’s monitoring station with seating, and private access to the crew quarters. Every chef we’ve had onboard comments on how wonderful the galley is laid out.”BREAKFAST BAR WITH PRIVACY WINDOW
“We love the breakfast bar and the opaque window that allows a view of the chefs working in the galley and automatically lowers to give the salon privacy when guests are present.”LAZARETTE STORAGE
“Not being sun people, we eliminated the beach club aft, which gave us a large lazarette area with lots of storage for bikes, suitcases, or anything else the crew needs to store.”—————————————————————————————————————————————————–
“Horizon has done more than ‘right’ by us and accommodated our extensive customizations, from over one-ton of additional sound proofing to internally heated German windshields to his-and-hers heads, dressing areas and showers. Horizon truly lets you build it your way and the FD Series offers impressive gross tonnage in a 110ft package.” — OWNERS
Specified as a Skyline configuration, the FD110 Untethered features a four-stateroom layout that includes a main-deck master and three large staterooms on the lower deck, including a forward VIP. This layout allows for spacious crew quarters as well as a gym below. This yacht has also been customized with a country kitchen and various dining and relaxation areas throughout, including the foredeck. An electric awning shades the bridge deck aft, which features a unique fire pit.
SWIM PLATFORM WITH SEA BOB MOUNTS
“We mounted four Sea Bobs with quick release mounts on the hydraulic swim platform. This allows easy access to the water and retrieval as they float off the platform when lowered/raised. We used this for the first time in The Bahamas this winter!”PORT AND STARBOARD WING STATIONS
“It’s nice to feel ‘attached’ to the boat when docking, with all controls including depth, horn, rudder, and full engine controls easily at hand. While the boat also has a wireless dock controller and clear site lines from stern to bow, the wing stations are really nice.”A GORGEOUS EXTERIOR PRESENCE
“In a beautiful metallic gray, the boat’s presence is easily announced. Horizon does not paint many boats and the FD102 takes to it well. Also note the non-standard helm glass – custom ordered from Tilse in Germany – which has a built-in heated windshield. Not shown are fairly non-standard engine room equipment, including water-cooled Magnus worldwide power converter, an Alfa Laval fuel separator, and built-in roll-out carbon fiber boarding ladders.”CUSTOM FIRE PIT
“This is my favorite customization. It is specifically intended for cool nights spent in Maine. Lots of engineering went into providing fail safes for the fire pit, including temperature alarm/shutoffs in the ceiling and floor, and text message alerts sent through the Maretron OptiPlex system to both the boat Captain and owner upon ignition.”CUSTOM MATCHING TENDER
“What is a super yacht without a painted-to-match custom tender?!”Click HERE to read the full article in Horizon’s Brand Publication Volume 55; or read related news to learn more about these two FD Series yachts.
